These terms are the agreement between you and Quillia ("Quillia", "we", "us") for using quillia.net and its services. Please read them - by creating an account or using Quillia, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Quillia.
1. What Quillia is
Quillia is a place to write, publish and read stories, with optional AI tools to help you brainstorm, draft and refine your writing. Some features, such as AI tools and cover generation, use credits.
2. Who can use Quillia
2.1 Age
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up.
Some stories contain mature content. Mature content is only available to readers and writers aged 18 or over, based on the date of birth on your account (or, for visitors who aren't signed in, their own confirmation that they're 18 or over). You agree to give your real date of birth and not to get around these limits.
2.2 Your account
Give accurate details when you sign up and keep them up to date. Keep your password safe - you're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at legal@quillia.net if you think someone else has used it.
One person, one account. Don't create accounts to get around a suspension or to collect extra free credits.
3. Your stories
3.1 You own your writing
Stories, chapters, covers and other content you create on Quillia are yours. We don't claim ownership of them.
3.2 The permission you give us
To run Quillia, we need your permission to store your content, show it, and make the copies needed to do that. So you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display and distribute your content on Quillia - only to provide and promote the service (for example, showing your published story on the Discover page or in a link preview). For content you keep private, that only covers storing it and showing it to you.
This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where others have already interacted with it (for example, a reply quoting your comment), or where we must keep it for legal reasons.
3.3 Publishing
Stories are private drafts until you publish a chapter. Once published, anyone can read it, including people who aren't signed in. You can unpublish at any time.
3.4 AI-assisted writing
When you use the AI tools, the text you send and the text you get back are yours to use, subject to these terms. AI can produce content that's inaccurate, unoriginal or similar to existing work - you're responsible for checking what you publish. Don't use AI tools to copy someone else's work.
4. Content rules
You must not create, upload, publish or share content that:
- sexualises or depicts sexual activity involving anyone under 18, in any form, including fiction, drawings or AI-generated text and images
- is illegal, or encourages or gives instructions for serious harm, terrorism or violent crime
- harasses, threatens, bullies or targets a real person, or reveals someone's private information
- presents sexual content about a real, identifiable person
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights
- is spam, scams, malware, or misleading promotion
Mature content is allowed when it follows these rules and is marked as mature, so that it's only shown to readers aged 18 or over.
You must also not misuse the service - for example by scraping it, overloading it, trying to get into other people's accounts, or getting around credit, age or safety limits.
5. Moderation and reports
We may review, hide, remove or restrict content, and suspend or close accounts, when we think something breaks these terms or the law, or puts people at risk. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you what we did and why, and you can ask us to look again by contacting us.
If you see something that breaks these rules, please report it through our contact page. We'll report content involving child sexual abuse to the relevant authorities.
6. Credits and payments
6.1 Credits
- AI tools and some other features use credits.
- New accounts get 200 free credits.
- You can buy more credits. Payments are handled by Stripe - we never see or store your full card details.
- Credits don't expire while your account is open.
- Credits have no cash value, can't be transferred to another account, and can't be exchanged for money.
- If an AI request fails because of a problem on our side, we'll refund the credits it used - contact us if that doesn't happen automatically.
6.2 Refunds
Bought credits are non-refundable once you've started using them, except where the law says otherwise. If you're in the UK or EU and haven't used any of a purchase, you can ask for a refund within 14 days of buying it by contacting us. This doesn't affect your legal rights.
6.3 Prices
We may change credit prices or what features cost. Changes don't affect credits you've already bought.
7. Other people's content
Stories on Quillia are written by their authors, not by us. We don't check everything before it's published and we're not responsible for what other users write - but please report anything that breaks these rules.
8. Changes and availability
We're always working on Quillia, so features may change, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We may change these terms - if the change is significant, we'll let you know by email or on the site before it takes effect. If you keep using Quillia after that, you accept the new terms.
9. Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by emailing privacy@quillia.net from the email address on your account. We'll delete your account and your content within 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy. Unused credits are lost when an account is closed, unless a refund applies under section 6.2.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms.
10. Liability
We provide Quillia "as is". We do our best to keep it running and your work safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. Please keep your own copies of important work - you can export your stories from My Books.
We're not liable for losses that weren't foreseeable, for business losses, or for content written by other users. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you also keep the protections of the law where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
12. Contact
